24th February 2011 – First Day of Ukrainian School

Ukrainian School  – 5:30pm on Thursday 24 February 2011

The newly prepared classroom, the former library room and office, was now full of children eager to start learning.
The children listened attentively to Ms Svetlana Yarosh, Ms Lyudmila Kelloway and Mr Tomas Miljenovic.

Whilst the children were in class, the parents were busy socialising and preparing something for them to eat after school.
Ms Maryna Popowych had prepared lovely piroshky for the children.

After school, and before eating, the children were shown how to make varenyky.

Maryna Popowych, Galina Shunko, Lyudmila Kelloway and Sofia Mikhalovitch had been making varenyky to sell at the Zabava for Saturday 26 February to raise money for the school.
They had the ingredients and they wanted the children to try and make a few varenyky.

The ladies were keen to help the school. We thank them for their initiative and willingness to assist.
The money raised from the sale of varenyky at the zabava will buy school supplies for the children.

After eating the children played together. The boys played pool with their fathers.

The children plan to come back on Saturday 5 March 2011 at 3pm for a PLAST (Ukrainian Scouts) lesson.
If anyone would like their child to join PLAST please come on Saturday at 3pm.
