MEDIA RELEASE: UKRAINIAN COMMUNITY OF QUEENSLAND CONDEMNS RUSSIA’S MISSILE STRIKES TARGETING CIVILIANS AND INFRASTRUCTURE IN UKRAINIAN CITIES

“The Ukrainian Community of Queensland Inc. (UCQ) deplores Russia’s abhorrent missile strikes targeting civilians and infrastructure in more than a dozen Ukrainian cities today.” said UCQ President, Peter Bongiorni.

“The scream of rockets is a harrowing way to wake a nation. Russia has targeted its cruise missiles at places where ordinary people gather – playgrounds, pedestrian bridges and parks – in what can only be

described as acts of State terrorism.”

“Today’s attacks are the actions of a desperate and humiliated man, vainly clinging to power and pointlessly trying to intimidate the Ukrainian people” he added.

“We call on Australia, and all nations that value humanity, to declare Russia a terrorist state, and provide Ukraine with the appropriate military and civilian aid required to protect its people.”

“As previously, we strongly urge the Australian Government to expel the Russian Ambassador and all Russian Diplomats from Australia – in lockstep with what many European countries have done as well,” Mr Bongiorni stated.

The Ukrainian Community of Queensland is holding a Ukrainian Festival to celebrate the culture of Ukraine in honour of the Ukrainian Defenders Day Holiday on 15 October at the Ukrainian Community Centre in Holland Park West.
